English Moves To 2nd in FedExCup, Callaway Numbers Up Big

Jeff Newton

English Gets Another Top 10, Up to 2nd In FedExCup

Harris English apparently doesn’t have “off weeks” inside the ropes, where his game’s just a little off or the breaks don’t quite go his way, a point that he backed up with a ninth place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. It’s already his fourth top-10 on the 2013-2014 season, and thanks to so many strong finishes so early in the year, he’s now up to 2nd place on the FedExCup standings.

One of the secrets to his success has been the X2 Hot Pro Driver (8.5°) that he’s absolutely hammered since he first put it in play at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, his first start as a Callaway staffer. Harris averaged 314.4 yards per drive during the event and a gaudy 328.6 yards per drive during the second round alone.

His gamer is 44 ¾”, with 1” tipping, features a Prjoect X 6B7 Shaft and has a Tour Velvet 58 ribbed Grip. The way Harris is striping it right now, this driver will probably be sticking around in his bag for a LONG time.

Callaway Numbers Way Up On Tour This Year

If you’ve been watching golf on TV, you’ve probably noticed all the Callaway hats and bags that pop up at every tournament. We’ve got a lot of new staffers like Harris, Pat Perez and Lydia Ko who are already playing well in their new equipment, and the reports we’re getting from our Tour Reps are just incredible.

We know our equipment numbers are going higher and higher right now, so last week we did a little digging to see the actual stats. We looked at the year-over-year comparison for the Waste Management Phoenix Open (PGA Tour event last week), and here are some of the many gems we found:

Callaway Tour Equipment Numbers For 2014 (Compared To 2013)

Waste Management Phoenix Open
Drivers: 38.5% increase over 2013
Fairway Woods: 76.5% increase over 2013
Hybrids: 166.7% increase over 2013
Irons: 54.5% increase over 2013
Golf Balls: 14.3% increase over 2013

Look at those numbers! And no, there aren’t any typos (that 166.7% for Hybrids is the real deal) on any of these categories. So many of our Staff Pros are playing great golf right now, and that’s clearly drawing attention from around the Tour.

Grillo Finishes Second In Dubai

Emiliano Grillo

Callaway staffer Emiliano Grillo shot 66 on Sunday to make a late charge at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, ultimately finishing solo second, just one shot off the winning score. The 21-year-old played a Big Bertha Alpha Driver (9°), X2 Hot Pro Fairway Wood (15°), an SR3 Golf Ball and an Odyssey Metal-X Milled #1 Putter. Great job, Emiliano!
